It all began in January of 2004 when Jessica Rodriguez began the journey of creating the New York Graduate Interest Group. Having participated in the undergraduate interest group at Stony Brook University, she sought Lambda Theta Alpha on the graduate level. Through consistent communication with the National Director of Expansion, Yvonne Garcia at the time, the group managed to increase in numbers. By the end of May 2004, The New York Graduate Interest Group consisted of many women, four of which would go on to become founding sisters (Marisol Cordero, Janette Cruz, Danielle Hawkins, and Jessica Rodriguez). The ladies came together to make a difference in the community. In the months to come the group executed various community services and educational programs that ranged from feeding the homeless to educating the youth about college. In April of 2005, Kilsy Irene Hidalgo began participating in the events that the New York Graduate Interest group held, and executed various community services as well. By May 2005, the New York Graduate Interest Group evolved to a group comprised of many multi-cultural women from various college institutions; Binghamton University, Hunter College School of Social Work, Seton Hall School of Law, Stony Brook University, and Utica College of Syracuse University. After many years of rigorous work in previous college interest groups, these women united and took the next step to join the sisterhood of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated with admirable dedication and determination. Ten of these ladies became the founders for this chapter. On August 6, 2005, Alpha Epsilon Graduate Chapter of New York was established by Founding Sisters: Kilsy Irene Hidalgo, Janette Cruz, Leydi Espinal, Jessica Rodriguez, Marisol Cordero, Danielle Hawkins, Yunnely Martinez, Stacy Bonano, Katherine Hiraldo, and Priscilla Hidalgo. The Sisters of Alpha Epsilon will continue to go above and beyond the call of duty, and will always hold the principles of Unity, Love, and Respect dear to their hearts. On November 12, 2006, four ladies crossed over into our sisterhood after much hard work and perserverance. These ladies became our Line 1: Lisa M. Concepcion, Marjoris Fernandez Urena, Clara Diaz, and Laura R. Yamin. OUR PHILANTHROPY: Serving the Needs of Immigrant Populations Being that we live in a state, and city that is comprised of so many different cultures, and customs, as well as the fact that many of us come from immigrant families, we felt the need to serve those underrepresented populations, help them adjust to society better, as well as help them understand their rights.
